BEN REACHES THE FINAL FOUR OF THE 2013 GINETTA SCHOLARSHIP AFTER NEVER DRIVING A CAR BEFORE

15year-old Glascoed racing driver Ben Hingeley was very close to earning himself a fully funded season in the 2013 Ginetta Junior Championship – worth over £40,000 – after impressing in the annual Ginetta Junior Scholarship at Bedford Autodrome

Committed to developing young motorsport talent, Lawrence Tomlinson, Chairman of Ginetta Cars said; “The calibre of entrants this year was phenomenal and they astounded our driving instructors from day one. Over 60 youngsters travelled to Bedford Autodrome from across the UK and Europe between 29 – 31 October, to push their driving ability to the max as they fought for the ultimate racers dream – a fully funded seat in what is unquestionably the most prestigious junior championship in the UK.

With drivers travelling form Sweden and Spain Ginetta set out a programme of not just driving but of fitness and media skills. Ben who’s first time in a car was astounded to get in the final 23 for the second day. As his confidence grew with more time in the car. Ben was able to pull on all his karting experience and impress the judges.

With 13 drivers to be sent home before lunch, Ben new it was a tough call to reach the final 10 as he continued to improve both on and off track; impressing Ginetta with his driving ability and media skills.

He made it through to the final 10. More time in the car meant that Ben was just getting better and faster. Ginetta were amazed with his confidence and ability to left foot brake and was adapting to the car by the minute. 6 more drivers were eliminated, Ben was through to the final four. At this point the rain began to fall and the track conditions became very slippy. Ben normally the master in the wet in a kart found it totally different in the Ginetta. Again he quickly adapted and left Ginetta with a tough decision. Unfortunately Ben didn’t win but left his mark at what a talented youngster he is. Congratulations to Jamie Chadwick the final winner and a massive thank you to Seb Morris, Mike Simpson,Tom Ingram, Adam Morgan and Jack Stanford. “Thank you for all your help guys unbelievable experience, a fantastic two days recommend to anyone thinking of upping their game to Ginetta, Cheers Ben”
